This resource is an adaptation of the popular Michael Morpurgo novel Private Peaceful, designed to follow the book chapter by chapter, and to be accessible for those in the early stages of learning English. Pictures have been added to facilitate comprension of some of the more difficult vocabulary. There are simple DARTS-style exercises linked to each chapter. Activities also include a PowerPoint presentation based around photos of life in the trenches and a map of the First World War, to develop vocabulary. There is also a wordlist that pupils can get out and laminate to use as a bookmark. EAL learners could read this version instead of, or alongside, the original, text.
This resource pack can be downloaded as Word and PowerPoint or PDF files.
