cause and effect diagram

This PowerPoint presentation demonstrates how a fishbone diagram could be used as a reasoning organiser in a particular subject/topic to explain causes and effects. The subject teacher has the opportunity to set a task after showing the example. Learners then use the blank Word or PDF template to do the teacher-set task (or in their workbooks with the template as a reminder). Teachers can also use the sample sentences at the end of the PowerPoint to give learners further or to differentiate support for writing.

The versatility of visual organisers makes them an excellent tool to support learners with English as an additional language. When information is presented in a visual form, learners with various degrees of English can engage in discussions / exploratory talk and collaborative learning; thus helping them improve their language skills, as well as conceptual development. The organisers can also support learners to develop / enhance their writing.
