It is very important for children and young people learning English as an additional language to continue to use their first language at home because this is the language your child can speak confidently. First languages are special, and can help families share their values and traditions and cultural identity.
Schools in the UK want to involve parents in school life and will try to share information and include families who speak little English. Schools here believe education involves the parents (or carers) and the school working together to help children learn.
